How to get the transcript of a Reel or TikTok

Last updated

Quick answer

Share the video to DoSaveIt using the share icon, then Share to or More. It returns the spoken words as text where speech or captions are available, along with key points. Accuracy depends on audio quality, accents and background music, so skim the text against the video before you quote or rely on it.

Get the text of a short video

  1. Try captions first

If the video shows captions, you can read along. Platforms differ and some videos have none, so do not count on it.

  2. Open the share menu

Open the Reel or TikTok and tap the share icon (the paper plane on Instagram, the arrow on TikTok).

  3. Choose Share to or More

In the share sheet, scroll the app row and tap Share to, or More if you do not see it.

  4. Pick DoSaveIt

Choose DoSaveIt from the list of apps. The link is sent to the app, which tells you when your result is ready.

  5. Read the transcript

Open the result. The transcript is shown with a short summary and key points.

  6. Check it

Skim the text against the video. Names, numbers and technical terms are the most likely to be wrong.

  7. Copy what you need

Copy the text into your notes. Quote it only with credit to the creator.

Common questions

What if the video is only music?

There is no speech to transcribe, so you get a summary from the caption and visible text instead, or a note that little could be extracted.

Is the transcript always accurate?

No. Automatic transcription makes mistakes, especially with accents, noise and jargon. Verify anything important.

Can I republish a transcript?

The words belong to the creator. Use transcripts for your own notes and study, and credit the source if you quote them.
