Turn an Instagram Reel into a recipe

Last updated

Quick answer

Share the recipe Reel to DoSaveIt from the paper-plane icon. It detects a recipe and returns ingredients, numbered steps and timing from the caption and spoken audio. Review the quantities against the video, then add the ingredients to a shopping list. Many creators also post the full recipe in the caption or comments.

From Reel to shopping list

  1. Open the share menu

Open the recipe Reel in Instagram and tap the paper-plane (share) icon.

  2. Choose Share to or More

In the share sheet, scroll the app row and tap Share to, or More if you do not see it.

  3. Pick DoSaveIt

Choose DoSaveIt from the list of apps. The link is sent to the app, which tells you when your result is ready.

  4. Wait for the result

DoSaveIt reads the caption and available audio and builds a recipe card with ingredients, steps and timing. This usually takes under a minute.

  5. Check the quantities

AI can miss amounts that are shown on screen but not said or written. Compare the ingredient list with the video before you shop.

  6. Send it to your shopping list

Use the one-tap action to copy the ingredients into your shopping list, then tick steps off as you cook.

Common questions

What if the Reel has no written recipe?

DoSaveIt works from what it can read or hear. If amounts are only shown visually, they may be missing, so treat the card as a draft and check the video.

Is there a way to do this without an app?

Check the caption and the pinned comment first, since many creators post the recipe there. Otherwise pause the video and note ingredients and steps by hand.

Does it handle allergies?

No. Always check ingredients yourself if you have allergies or dietary needs.
